Australian Open SIM - Predictions

Postby Baghdad Baghdatis » Mon, 11 Jan 2010 21:58

Hi All,

Right as the first major tournament is around the corner for the new SIM tour I felt it worthy to start a predictions for Aussie Open.

Post not only the perhaps more 'obvious favourites' but more also more interestingly the darkhorses.

Post also any match reports here too as you go along :) Right, to business:

Major threats - Top 10 Seeds

1. Noberto H - an awesome player who needs no introduction. If he uses Bashmakov, and is on his game, he is easily the player to beat

2. Rae - a naturally gifted player and one of my good friends and rivals - a great all rounder who will rally with the best of them. Again if he is on players will find it hard to get on top of his ball reaching skills

3. Specialist - a class player with incredible shot making skills that dazzle me time and time again. A good risk game, which if on, is one of the hardest players in ITST

4. Aceusam - a player with a wicked out wide serve, big risk returns and a power game that can keep you on the back foot. If he got to the Final it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Swifty - great, but does he have it in him to win a Slam?
Jacagest - a highly skilled simmer but can he find that 5th gear to get to the latter stages?
Coolhand - a fierce competitor but will he be tired after his huge interest and effort in MS &WS?
Amazing Zizou - a gifted player with slick volley ability but does he have the power to rival the big guns?
Djarivk - a true sim player and lover, plays tennis like it should be played and always a tough cookie
Joesixtoe - a hard player to knock off his perch, title in SIM under is belt, can he push for the big one?

Major threats - Unseeded Champions

1. Anteros - again a player who needs no introduction here at ITST. Arguably the best player on the tour and one who i predict to be no.1 SIM by the end of the 2010 season. Watch out people.

2. Anilitje - a magician & legend in ITST. Former Aussie Open Champ in MS and whilst semi- retired and playing for fun and not money, this guy can do it all.

3. Pichacu - retired number 1 MS champ, coming into SIM with arguably the strongest threat in the mens game in the last 12 months with one major and 3 major finals. Can he emulate his succces in SIM?

4. Mack - whilst not perhaps a title player, he plays like the best of them, and i know, from experience, this guy gets to every ball and you have to be at your best to beat him.

Darkhorses

EPOX FR - new to the tour and risk, volley and serve makes this guy lethal.

MoralSpain & Ensimada - two brothers with the best defense game you are ever likely to see.

Puttu Puttu & SMP andyroro - my training partners and quality players who, if they can find the edge, can progress deep into the draw.

David08 & JayL0ve (if he plays)

I think out of the above statement I would like to put Anteros at the top of the pile.

No real surprise I suppose, because he is a class act but i found him to be the most difficult SIM player, just.

We played only 1 set, and whilst i managed to pip him 7-6, he broke me twice and had the lead in the tie break but i managed to pull through. Like coolhand siad in another thread, his angles are just perfection and you have to be 100% sharp on every single point! Even if you hit a risk and think the point is over you have to almost expect the ball to comeback and be ready for the next shot.

Come on people, predictions for any new comers etc? Or which players are you all going to use in the Aussie Open? :)

I'd love to use my Sixx character as I really like playing with him but I just know he is going to get killed by a Bishop/Bucci type as he can be overpowered way too easily. I don't like the fact a high volley skill has been wasted on him considering he has a rather weak serve and low height. I imagine him to be more of a defensive baseliner type so the high volley stat kinda baffles me. I rarely come to the net with him but perhaps that is just me.

I understand what you mean Mack, I would love to use F Burns in the Aussie Open I have just mastered the art of volleying! But i need to get used to him a bit more first before I play with him in ITST. Namely the 54 power which means I will need to start risking a bit more if i am going to stay in rallies when i am not serving.

On another note, I have see the entree list for the OPen (SIM) is like 53 out of 64 or summit, thats brilliant. It would be really great to have the full 64 playing and therefore no byes for seeds and a better draw.

Sad as it is i might send a note out on xbox live tonight to get some people to sign up :)

I did not think I could win my R32 match, now I've checked the draw again. What a crappy section I am in! :x
