no we don't have a good djokovic, you can try, there is one i did early one, a pic is in the thread somewhere, but nothing special...
Important tips and tricks for player creation :
1 - Start with the body and tennis style : i strongly suggest this, since you might get so thrilled with your new creation that you end up going to the save / general information screen and save without updating it, which would be a shame, huh ? (happened to me btw)
2 - Don't overdo body mass : start with a moderate preset, then work from there but it is better to actually double check your player does not look to fat/muscular vs thin/skinny before you save, you can really ruin a good CAP there, ask gemini who once did a quarterback tsonga.
- I usually go for a build 2, fat 2, muscle 6 for the average player, then build 1, fat 2, muscle 3 for the skinny one, and build 3, muscle 7 for the muscular type.
- Remember a good way to check on the muscles is to go to tattoo and check head/arm/legs and get the feel...
- Of course, you can adjust with the neck type, especially useful for players with a high neck like Nadal or Soderling for instance. The same goes here : don't overdo it or you will have the feeling you play with a girafe, so max +2-3 to the neck default, or -2 if you wanna make a more sturdy or muscular type (like Agassi for instance)
3 - Tennis style is very important too, since having the right strokes and serve is of paramount importance for the in-game feel. Watch a youtube video or two before you start chosing, if you do not try to recreate run of the mill pros like nadal (all his trademark moves are in the game, like B backhand, E forehand and F serve, if i remember correctly though...
Knowing that tsonga has a very agassian type of serve for instance and you'll know what's best.
That does not mean you are going to be overly competitive with him though, since some strokes are in my experience a bit harder to time, i mean when you play trigger free like i do.
And i consider myself a pretty decent mover and sim player, just ask GOA or Djarvik who met my soderling a few months back ;o)
4 - Facial traits :
- Chosing the preset is of the essence, i usually start with the inverted cap one (2 to the left) for spanish type pros, then the kiddie looking brush haired blondie and the muscular irish looking red haired one for the rest of them...
- Always start with the hairtype / color and shave, thus you will have the right proportions when you start editing, you could start with the bald type 'cause it gives a - cleaner shot at the face, but if it doesn't match with the haircut, you won't be able to render your beloved pro properly.
Only a half of the male haircuts can be used to do nice looking pros IMO, and i curse PAM for not having a federer like cut in the game !
- Chose the skin tone then, and make sure the preset you chose actually have the skin tone available : if you start with an afro preset, you won't be able to do a pale soderling with it, since even skin tone 1 is brownish at best.
Use a picture if you have one (i never do, i work from visual memory)
- Start experimenting with ALL traits before you start sculpting (forehead is very important there), once you think you got the proportions about right, then browse through different complexion to get the right 3D touch on the face. Complexion can make a really big difference if you ask me, my Moya and Ferrero are good examples i guess. You might end up trying to do one pro and magically getting the rough of another one !
- Once you start sculpting, you are entering the most difficult and frustrating phase of your artwork, since almost every point you move will move the others, sometimes erratically and always without your consent !
- So act in little touches, undo if you are going in the wrong direction, and keep cool !
- Start with the eyes, once you got the eyes right (and you might never get them right), go to the nose, then mouth and chin in the end...
- Do not forget to press rb and work extensively from the side view since your player will mostly be portrayed from the side / 3/4 angle in-game, so it helps a lot if "profile" is spot on, which is easier since you do not get to see the eyes.
- Adjust what is necessary and then got out of sculpt and zoom dezoom to see if the face looks good from afar, which is always a pretty good indication of the end result
REMEMBER THE GOLDEN RULE : NEVER EVER CHANGE ANY FACIAL TRAIT PRESET (like going from chin 2 to 3) AFTER SCULPTING, unless you wanna mess everything. This is too me the biggest flaw of this editor, since you need to have every single trait in place and have no second chance once you start sculpting (only shape seems to be rather forgiving when you change it)
- Oh and once your finished and you see the player snapshot for the first time, don't be shocked, just a bug, go to the mall, exit, and you'll be looking good again !
I hope it helps, i will now try to come up with one decent in-depth tutos with pictures...
