So, me and coke had a battle today. I was burns, he was thomson. i came out the blocks quickly, and broke in the 1st game, then held to go 2-0 up, however the next two games went to coke due to some extremely diabolical SV'ing from me.
At 2-2, we both had chances on each others serve and hit some classic shots, me some good volleys and him some shots i had to shceck the repaly to make sure they were even in. it went with serve though, and at 4-4 i managed to get the crucial minibreak and serve out the set.
the next set, i was really firing, i got to 0-30 on the 1st 3 of cokes service games but could capitalise on his rapidly failing 1st serve % as his second serve i couldnt. He just rolled it in to my backhand and my lack of power either meant
A. i hit it wayy to shot and he would pumell it away
B. I had to risk return and would either win the point or hit it out
all the while holding quite well, in the tiebreak however i got passed by some quality shots and couldnt get the minibreaks back, my volleys started to get a bit brittle at the end of the second which made me tentative, although the passes of coke was getting better ad better.
In the 3rd, i again started well. My serve was getting better and better even with rapidly decreasing stamina. at 4-4 i got to 0-30 again. after losing the next two points, some good attacking play got me a break point at 4-4. coke demolished this and i lost the game, and unfortunatley the next game, coke hit 3 phenomenal returns, i was 0-40, tried to SV again, and got passed.
Final score 7-6, 6-7, 4-6
not too bothered though, i made one of the very best players on the ps3 tour uncomfortable and have to drag out his very best tennis. Also, the way i kept asking the passing question of "pass me. pass me again. again. again. agian. again. ad nauseum" on ever point i could i think unsettled him and i was volleying very well.
That being said. he found a way to win as the good players always do and much credit for that. It was a completely fair game, no short slices, no iffy returns, no lobs even. It was just a test of who was the better player and he came out on top. I could have played no better. brilliant match.
Proud serve and volleyer!
