One of my personal records fell tonight, but to a good player, i lost my 1st ever SV vs SV match to soundofsilence. The 1st set i was completely outplayed, player didnt react to any volley just let them drift by and his serve and return and volley was working so well i wondered if i'd even get a game, i lost the 1st set 2-6, and that was generous.
The second i forced myself to up my game and it was closer, i noticed that (going to give myself a huge handicap here) that as burns has super anaemic strength lightman could just roll in mega slow topspin serves and while i could return quite accurately, he had so much time to get in a good position that his 1st volley was so authoriative i had no chance.
That being said i started to use these tactics instead off firing 130 mph bomb that left me jammed as i had not enough time to get to net, but with less success as lightman has more power so could get more pop on the return.
However i had set point in the 2nd at 6-5 him serving, but couldnt take them and lost the tiebreak badly. as i was low on confidence i was gonna leave but sound convinced me to rematch,
the 1st set in the rematch i was just about clinging on, especially in the very first game fending off about 6 BP's over the set and not making much of a dent on lightmans apart from 1 BP. However in the tiebreak i played uite sloid using the slow topspin serve tactics and made good volleys, and FINALLY sound missed a coupel and i managed to take the set, this give me confidence and i started risk returning on his games just to get some beef on the returns, and they gradually started clicking and i got a break, and was holding a little easier on my own serve, while i was chipping away at his games. at 5-3 his serve i broke again to win, luckily after a marathon.
In conclusion (lol) i managed to win one game but i struggled immensely, and even in the 2nd match i thought sound was the better player, it was luck that he missed some volleys i managed to break. but you should hear his views on the matches too
