Sim Tourney Report

Postby SoundfSilence » Mon, 06 Jul 2009 22:45

Quick report on the Sim tourney match.

Apathetically was Lleyton Hewitt, I was Joachim Johansson.

Image

Final Score was 6-3, 7-6 (3) Win for Apathetically.

This match was a lot of fun. Apathetically served first, holding to love, hitting nice groundstrokes from the baseline. I followed up with a love service hold to, with agressive serve and volley. Both of us held comfortable, up until 3-3, I managed to get to 0-30 on his serve, but he held on. At 4-3, he broke my serve, I hit some sloppy volleys, and was slow getting to the net... He punished me taking a the first break point of the match at 30-40. He served out the set 6-3.

2nd set I served first, and had to save break point straight away. I managed to get to 0-30 on his serve a couple of times in the set, but only had one break point, which I got into a rally, but wasn't agressive enough. His consistency won over.

He ran away with the tie-break after a poor start from me, was 5-0 down. In the end, 7-3 in tie break to him.

Verdict:

I certainly had a lot of fun in this match. Although I lost, it was competitive, great contrasting styles. I only just realised now that Apathetically only had 68 points overall, so really I should have done better :) All in all, a fun match, tense at times, very realistic play. I'm all in for more tourneys with these rules :tu

I added a poll to this thread. Please don't vote until you have at least tried a few different setups and played a few matches.

I rarely play S & V's on ITST, probably the first and your volleys were damn good, you must of been around 20/24 at the net or something 8). Fair play, you could do some nice damage on fast surfaces. And i agree with the summary, good stuff.

We should play tonight. I'm really enjoying the sim rules. I had to change my Sampras to make him fit, and it got me to experiment with setups I wouldn't try before.

Since there are quite a few matches left to be played and there are no points involved, I added 2 days to the Rd 16 deadline.

one thing i notced is that even with a reduction in GS stats 90 power is still a bit too much. Whenever people are out of position high speed and power can get them out of it. its much better to have 70 Fh and 90 power than 90 FH and 70 power.

really i think i prefer the 90 power, if you have high speed you can still get in position fast enough to 'power up' and hit very hard shots, without really needing more than 50-55 stamina. With low power you need a high GS stat, high speed AND high stamina to be successful/

If opponent has 90 power 69FH and 79BH....and high speed....chances are his return and/or serve will be weak.

That is were you need to step in.

Also, with 69 and 79 strokes, it is not easy to put away the points....if you out of position as you say. If you use low power-high strokes, then you must play with counter puncher mentality....you don't want to end the point too quick...the longer the point goes, the more chances for unforced error by opponent, especially with his 69 side. You want to keep the ball relatively deep and attack the 69 side with different spins....timing is trickier with 69. But don't hit constant flats there, got to mix short, long, top spins, slices.

Of course there will be miss matches, but that's the beauty! There will be more then one working setup and there always will be a miss match for that setup.
Level 13 Edberg and counting...

i kinda think 90 serve is weak---i need to create a guy with 90 serve---but, i like rallies more than 1-2 punch put aways
