Davis Cup 2009 Schedule

Postby SlicerITST » Mon, 07 Sep 2009 13:12

With the upcoming Davis Cup semifinal in real life i thought it would be a good idea to start up the ITST Davis Cup. The schedule of this tournament will be a bit different then the past years.

Type: Knockout tournament
Drawsize: 8 or 16
Minimum size of teams: 2
Begindate: 18/09/2009
Enddate: 07/10 (8 draw), 18/10 (16 draw)

Past years the Davis Cup was plagued with delays. We hope that this year things will be different. To achieve this there will be fixed deadlines for each round in a rubber. These deadlines will not be extended at all(!). The other main thing is that the Davis Cup is now accessible for 2 players. So if one player doesnt play Top Spin anymore there is more chance that another player can fill in.

Rubber setup

A team can consist of a minimum of 2 players now because the third match will be a SIM match. Either of these 2 players can play the SIM match. Of course you can also select more players for your team (up to 5) and let these players play any match you want. Only restriction is that if a player has already played match 1 he cannot play match 2 (same goes for match 4 and 5) and vice versa.

Continental teams and other exceptions

Continental teams can be signed up for this Davis Cup just as last year. Any players in this team must not be available for any other team though. So any player from USA or France for example can never play for their respective continental teams.

If demand is high and people dont mind we could think of adding multiple teams for the big nations to also give the players that are not that good yet a chance to play. We can use this thread to discuss this option. This rule has been implemented in the past. There we had an addition to this rule saying that players are not interchangable between the 2 country teams for the entire Davis Cup. As that was a succes i would like to do that this year as well.

Davis Cup Schedule

To conclude this post a schedule for this years Davis Cup. This is a proposed schedule which is open for changes. This first week is a free week on the ATP so we can have shorter deadlines there:

Round 16 (+ the earlier quarterfinals)
Rubber 1 22/09 - 24/09
Rubber 2 22/09 - 24/09
SIM Rubber 22/09 - 24/09 *
Rubber 4 25/09 - 27/09
Rubber 5 25/09 - 27/09

Quarterfinal
Rubber 1 01/10 - 04/10
Rubber 2 01/10 - 04/10
SIM Rubber 01/10 - 04/10 *
Rubber 4 05/10 - 09/10
Rubber 5 05/10 - 09/10

* Two days extension for a SIM match if one of the players is also playing one of the first regular matches.

This thread can be used to discuss the 2 teams per nation rule and the schedule. Both are open for debate.

The schedule has been updated. Please make sure to play your matches. There will be no extensions like previous years.

No you do not receive ranking points for playing for the Davis Cup events. I think that is why it is more difficult to get players to play for it though-out each rubbers and rounds.

Yes. Without the points. I guess there are what they would call, "intangible points." LOL.
